Abstract:Planar Flow Casting (PFC) is one of rapid solidification processes for the fabrication of thin amorphous ribbons. In the PFC technique, the characteristics of the molten puddle in the nozzle-wheel gap are directly relevant to the ribbon formation and ribbon quality. In the paper the investigations status on PFC puddle were analyzed, in which the surface waves in the puddle and the determination of heat transfer coefficient between the metal ribbon and the chilled wheel were detailedly introduced, and some suggestions on further research of PFC were given. The paper would give some clues for the research of other metal ribbon production techniques, such as Chill Block Melt-Spinning, Melt Extraction, etc.
