Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of unilateral biportal eodoscopy(UBE)discectomy for treament of far migrated lumbar disc herniation. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 26 patients with far migrated lumbar disc herniation treated at Liaocheng People's Hospital from January 2023 to December 2023.The cohort included 15 males and 11 females, with ages ranging from 30 to 72 years[mean(49.12±13.48)years].All patients underwent UBE discectomy via the interlaminar approach.Pain and functional status were assessed using the visual analogue scale(VAS)for low back pain and leg pain, and the Oswestry disability index(ODI)before and after surgery.Clinical outcomes were evaluated at the final follow-up using the modified MacNab criteria. Results All 26 cases were successfully completed. The mean follow-up duration was(12.85±1.87)months(range:10 to 16 months). The VAS scores for low back pain and leg pain,as well as the ODI,showed significant improvement at 1 month postoperatively compared with preoperative values(P<0.05).At the final follow-up,the VAS scores for low back pain and leg pain, and the ODI,remained significantly improved compared with preoperative values(P<0.05).The excellent and good rate was 96.15%according to the modified MacNab criteria. Conclusion Unilateral biportal endoscopy discectomy is a safe and effective treatment for far migrated lumbar disc herniation, achieving satisfactory early clinical outcomes and serving as a valuable addition to minimally invasive surgical options.
