Compartive Study of Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Injury Patterns between Acute and Chronic Patellar Dislocation in Adolescents:an MRI Study
Abstract:Objective To compare and analyze the injury incidence, site of injury, the extent of damage of the medial pa-tella femoral ligament(MPFL)and the femoral trochlear anatomical morphology between the acute patellar dislocation(APD) and the chronic patellar dislocation(CPD)in adolescents. Methods We reviewed MRI,data of 71 adolescents with acute pa-tellar dislocation(33)and chronic patellar dislocation(38),analysis injury characteristics of MPFL and anatomic parameters of trochlea between two groups. Results The incident rate of MPFL injury,MPFL disappeared and injury site of MPFL had no significant differences between two groups(P ﹥ 0. 05),but complete tear and partial tear and multi-site injury of MPFL between two groups had significant differences(P ﹤ 0. 05). Imaging data showed that anatomic parameters of femoral trochlea were sig-nificantly different between acute and chronic patellar dislocation groups(P ﹤ 0. 05). Conclusion Adolescents are more likely happened partial tear of MPFL in APD,and complete tear is more common in CPD. MPFL injury at patella side is most com-mon after APD or CPD,and multi-site injuries are more susceptible to CPD. Abnormal trochlear anatomical morphology is one of the causes to difference between APD and CPD.
