Relationship between Postoperative Neurological Function and Overall Quality of Life in Cervical Spondylosis Operations
Abstract:Objective To analyze the relationship between post operative neurological function and the overall quality of life through the retrospective analysis of the patients who underwent posterior multi-segmental unilateral open-door laminoplasty de-compressionprocedures. Methods FromMarch2008 toMay201488 patientsinour department( 50 Male ,38 Female ,58 . 6 ± 9. 1 years)who underwent the operations were recruited in the study. We analyzed the correlation between neurological function (JOA),quality of life(QOL)(indcluding Physical Component Summary,PCS and Mental Component Summary,MCS)and ex-plored the relationship between the subjective and objective evaluation systems. Results 88 patients were followed-up for more than 24 months. At the 12th month after the operations, the correlation coefficient between JOA and PCS,MCS were 0. 568(P =0. 000),0. 148(P =0. 168). At the 24th months after the operations, the correlation coefficient between JOA and PCS,MCS were 0. 361(P =0. 001),0. 388(P = 0. 000)respectively. Conclusion Surgeon-based objective scales mainly reflect physical health status, which does not reflect the mental health in the patients who underwent the procedures at the 12th month, and it can reflect the overall quality of life at the 24th after the surgery. The patient-based SF-36 was a useful tool to evaluate conditions after the operations. The application of JOA and SF-36 to assess the overall QOL is more comprehensive and accurate.
