Influence of Intravertebral Cleft on Outcomes of Percutaneous Kyphoplasty
Abstract:Objective To analyze the effect of intravertebral cleft(IVC)on the outcome of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP)in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebra compression fracture(OVCF). Methods All data were collected prospectively and analyzed retrospectively. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,we selected the patients of OVCF and underwent procedures of PKP between May 2011 and May 2013 in Xi’an Hong Hui Hospital. We divided the patients into IVC group and non IVC group, based on the patients with or without IVC. Preoperative and postoperative visual analogue scales(VAS),Oswe-stry disability index(ODI),Cobb angle and relative anterior vertebral height were recorded. And the intraoperative volume of bone cement implantation, bone cement distribution, leakage of bone cement and postoperative adjacent vertebral fracture were recorded. Results The VAS and ODI of the two groups were significantly improved(P ﹤ 0. 05),and there was no significant difference between the two groups at the same follow - up time points(P ﹥ 0. 05). Cobb angle and relative anterior vertebral height were significantly improved(P ﹤ 0. 05)after the procedures. Between the two groups the volume of bone cement implan-tation had significant difference(P ﹤ 0. 05),bone cement distribution type had significant difference(P ﹤ 0. 05),bone cement leakage rate had no significant difference(P ﹥ 0. 05),bone cement leakage type had significant difference(P ﹤ 0. 05),postop-erative adjacent vertebral fracture rate had no significant difference(P ﹥ 0. 05). Conclusion There is no influence of IVC on the clinical outcomes of PKP for OVCF. However, the existence of IVC can affect volume of bone cement implantation, bone ce-ment distribution type, bone cement leakage type, and deformity correction.
