Comparative Analysis of Arthroscopic a Single Position Versus Traditional Posterior Incision in the Treatment of Popliteal Fossa Cyst
Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of popliteal cyst with single position arthroscopic treatment and traditional posterior incision. Methods From February 2012 to April 2014,our hospital enrolled 24 patients(10 males and 14 females)with popliteal cyst excision via single position arthroscopic treatment, the ages of whom ranged from 42 to 71 years old ( AVG 58. 8). The mean time of follow-up was 10 months. While 19 patients(9 males and 10 females)via traditional poste-rior incision,at the ages of 41 to 71 years old(AVG 54. 7)were also included. The mean time of follow-up was 16 months. The postoperative imaging results, clinical efficacy and complications were compared and analyzed between the two groups. Re-sults The favorable ratios of single position arthros copy and conventional posterior incision were 83.3% and 73.7%(P>0. 05),respectively. There was no statistical significance between the two groups in the favorable ratio,VAS(visual analogue pain score)and Lysholm knee scores. The recurrence rate of single body posture was 4. 17%,compared to that of 26. 32% in con-ventional posterior incision group(P<0. 05). The recovery time of single body posture arthroscopy group(4 days)was shor-ter than that of the conventional posterior group(16 days)(P<0.05).Conclusion Both singlep osition arthroscop icresec-tion and conventional posterior resection are effective in the treatment of popliteal cyst. However,in contrast to traditional poste-rior incision, single position arthroscopic excision performed less trauma, shorter postoperative recovery time and lower recur-rence rate of popliteal cyst.
