Abstract:Objective To investigate surgical techniques and clinical efficacy of arthroscopy in elderly patients with de-generative rotator cuff tears. Methods Weretrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 14 cases of elderly patients with degen-erative rotator cuff tears in our hospital from July 2012 to February 2015. Rotator cuff tears were repaired using arthroscopy. Pa-tients did functional exercises under doctorsˊguidance after operation(2,4,6,8,12 weeks, and 6,12 months after operation), and then were followed up every year. UCLA shoulder scoring criteria was used to evaluate the function before operation and in the final follow-up. Before surgery, the UCLA score was(9. 4 ± 2. 6)points on average. Wherein the pain score was(2. 6 ± 1. 2)points,function score was(4. 2 ± 1. 4)points,initiative shoulder flexion score was(2. 6 ± 1. 4)points,flexion strength scorewas(2.8±0.6)points.Results All patients were followed up for17.4months(6~36months)and the final UCLA score on average was(30. 4 ± 3. 6)points after surgery. Where in the pain score was(8. 2 ± 1. 6)points,function score was (8. 8 ± 1. 2)points,initiative shoulder flexion score was(4. 9 ± 0. 4)points,flexion strength score was(4. 6 ± 0. 6)points, the scores were statistically significant with preoperative differences(P=0. 000). The group had 8 excellent cases,4 fine ones and 2 normalones. The good rate was 85.7%.Conclusion The arthroscopic surgery may off erminimal in vasion, clearvision, a comprehensive treatment and rapid recovery,it can also maximize the recovery of shoulder function. So it is obviously the pre-ferred way to treat the elderly with degenerative rotator cuff tears.
