Abstract:Objective To evaluate safety and the clincal application of the balloon expander percutaneous kyphoplasty in the treatment of serious osteoporotic vertebral comperssion fractures. Methods From 2007. 7 to 2014. 6,18 serious osteoporot-ic vertebral compression fracture cases(25 vertebrae)with domestic-made balloon expander PKP were performed to heal the OVCFs. Patients' pain relief and functional activities recovery were evaluated after operation, the distribution of the cement and the restoration of vertebral height were observed post-operation. All these patients were followed up by telephone or clinic con-sults. Results All cases underwent the PKP procedures with unipedicle injection. The VAS and ODI scoring were both de-creased significantly after operation.(P < 0. 05)The vertebral height was restored with anterior height and midline height re-stored significantly. Bone cement leakage 12 vertebraes was observed, but have no serious complication. Conclusion PKP is efficent and safe in the treatment of serious osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.
