Epidemiological Studies of Distal Radial Fractures in 534 Patients over the Age of 46 in Inner Mon-golia
Abstract:Objective To investigate the epidemiological features of distal radius fractures in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Methods The retrospective study included distal radial fractures in 534(582 sides)patients over the age of 46 in three hospitals in Inner Mongolia from March 2011 to March 2014. The gender, age, injury causes, fracture time, fracture classi-fications and treatment approaches were recorded and analyzed. Results There were 148(27. 72% )men and 386(72. 28% ) women in 5 3 4 patients of distal radial fractures . There was significant difference in the distribution of each age group( P ﹤0. 05),patients with the age of 66 ~ 75 years accounted for 29. 59% . Fall injuries(41. 76% )was significantly higher than other causes of injury(P ﹤ 0. 05),and there were more injure in the autumn and winter. Colles fracture(50. 19% )was signif-icantly higher than Smith fractures(26. 40% )and Barton fractures(23. 41% ). 23-A3-type(19. 29% )were most common in AO classification. Conservative treatment(378 sides,64. 95% )was much higher than the surgery(204 sides,35. 05% )(P ﹤0. 05),manual reduction and plaster immobilization(50. 34% )was the predominant treatment approaches. Conclusion The survey reveals the epidemiological characteristics in 534 elderly patients in Inner Mongolia, preventing the distal radius frac-tures caused by falls of low-energy injury, autumn and winter are prevention peak.
