Relationship between the Lumbar QCT Values and the Bone Fusion after Lumbar Spinal Fusion
Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between the lumbar spine QCT values and the bone fusion after lum-bar spinal fusion. Methods By retrospective analysis,90 cases of degenerative lumbar instability syndrome treated by lumbar spinal fusion were divided into 3 groups according to their lumbar spine QCT values:26 cases in group A(the osteoporosis group),38 cases in group B(the osteopenia group),while the other 26 cases(the normal bone mass group)in group C. The Fischgrund standard was provided to assess the final effect, and the Suk criterion was used to estimate the final fusion condi-tions. Results 90 patients were received successfully follow-up of 5 to 47 months. And the follow-up time averaged(14. 93 ± 9. 99)months. The final effect were statistically significant different(P ﹤ 0. 05)between the 3 groups. On the other hand, there were also statistically significant difference(P ﹤ 0. 05)in the fusion rate or the fusion time between the 3 groups. Conclusion Lumbar spinal fusion is an effective method for treatment of degenerative lumbar instability syndrome, but osteoporosis and osteopenia may reduce the fusion rate, prolong the fusion time and even lead to the fusion failure.
