Repair of the Soft Tissue Defect in Contralateral Leg with the Reverse Sural Nerve Nutritional Is-land Flap
Abstract:Objective To summarize clinical application results of reverse sural nerve nutritional island flap in treatment of the soft-tissue defect in contralateral leg. Methods From January 2009 to January 2013,5 patients(4 men,1 women)with soft tissue defect in contralateral leg underwent reconstruction with the reverse sural nerve nutritional island flaps in the no in-jured leg by bridge shaped transplantation. They ranged in age from 22 to 48 years with an average of 36 years old. Time after injury was from 21 days to 38 days. The donor area at the leg was closed primarily with free skin grafting. Results All the re-verse sural nerve nutritional island flaps had survived completely. One patients developed venous congestion, which subsided spontaneously after one week without complications. Follow - up period ranged form 8 month ~ 4. 6 years postoperatively. The tibia and fibula fractures were confirmed healing. A good contour was confirmed at the recipient area. Satisfactory clinical re-sults were obtained in all cases. Conclusion This technique is particularly useful in treatment of soft tissue defect in the inju-ried leg when only one main vessel remains. Injury to donor area is reduced.
