Cause Analysis and Prevention to the Complications of Percutaneous Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty

Abstract:Objective To nalysis of postoperative complications and prevention strategies in the percutaneous vertebro-plasty(PVP)and percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP)in osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods A retrospective analysis of 238 cases(374 vertebrae)who underwent PVP or PKP under C-arm X-ray in our hospital from January 2008 to January 2013. Complications occurred in 45 cases(67 vertebrae). The 45 cases were analyzed. Results A total of 45 cases (67 vertebrae)had postoperative complication,the incidence was 18. 9% . Of which 37 cases occurred bone cement leakage,1 case occurred nerve root occurred,1 case occurred puncture site hematoma,3 cases appeared fracture again in injured vertebral or adjacent vertebral during follow-up again. Conclusion Generally complications of PVP and PKP are not seldom. Serious complications seldom occurred. The key to prevent complications is strictly master the indications and contraindications. Stand-ard skilled operative,C-arm closely monitoring can reduce the incidence of complications during operation.
