A study on the correlation between postoperative recurrence and nasal microbiota in patients with chro-nic sinusitis and nasal polyps

Abstract：Objective:This study aimed to explore the relationship between nasal microbiota characteristics and postoperative recurrence in patients with chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP),providing new insights for controlling disease progression and preventing recurrence.Methods:The clinical data of 101 patients with CRSwNP ad-mitted to tianjin first central hospital from June 2020 to January 2021 were collected.According to the improvement of postoperative symptoms,endoscopic examination and imaging results,they were divided into non-recurrent group(85 cases)and recurrent group(16 cases).Nasal swab samples were collected during the operation,and 16S ribosomal RNA(16S rRNA)gene high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were performed.Results:There is no significant difference between the α and β diversity indexes of nasal flora in patients with recurrence and those without recurrence,but the overall composition of the microbiota differed.The abundance of Acinetobacter,Rhodopseudomonas and Kestrella in recurrent group was significantly higher than that in non-recurrent group.Further linear discriminant analysis indicated that digestive cocci were also enriched in the recurrent group.The composition of nasal flora is signifi-cantly related to clinical variables,among which the abundance of Acinetobacter is positively related to age,body mass index(BMI),serum total immunoglobulin E(IgE)level and 20 items of rhinosinusitis outcome test(SNOT-20)score,and the difference of flora is related to the severity of the disease.Conclusion:The nasal microbiota structure dif-fers significantly between non-recurrent and recurrent CRSwNP patients,which may be associated with postoperative recurrence.An increased abundance of acidobacteria may be correlated with both postoperative recurrence and disease severity in CRSwNP.
