Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of quetiapine in the treatment of elderly organic mental disorders and its effect on the mental status of patients. Methods:All 90 elderly patients with organic mental disorders who presented to Guizhou Second People's Hospital from May 2023 to September 2024 were divided into two groups by random num-ber chart,45 cases in each group. The control group was treated with olanzapine and the observation group was treated with quetiapine.Clinical efficacy, cognitive function, mental status, glucose and lipid metabolism, and adverse effects were compared between the two groups. Results:The total response rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, with a statistical difference(P<0.05).After treatment, the scores of the montreal cognitive as-sessment scale(MoCA)in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the scores of the brief mental assessment scale(BPRS)were lower than those in the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05).After treatment, the low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC)and fasting glucose(GLU)in the two groups were higher than before treatment, but the observation group was lower than the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05).After treatment, the high-density lipoprotein cholester-ol(HDL-C)in the two groups was lower than that before treatment, but the observation group was higher than that in the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups was similar, with no statistical difference(P>0.05).Conclusion:Compared with olanzapine, quetiapine has a higher thera-peutic effect in the treatment of elderly patients with organic mental disorders, which can promote the improvement of patients' mental status and cognitive function, and has a lower impact on patients' glucose and lipid metabolism level,so the medication is safer.
