Abstract:Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of using a modified localized nasopharyngeal irrigator in pa-tients with nasopharyngeal ulcers after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods:A total of 80 NPC patients with nasopharyngeal ulcers after radiotherapy at Jiangxi Cancer Hospital from January 2022 to September 2023 were selected and randomly divided into an observation group(n=40)and a control group(n=40)using a random number table method. The control group received routine nasopharyngeal irrigation, while the observation group re-ceived modified positioning nasopharyngeal irrigation. The degree of nasopharyngeal mucosal reaction, nasopharyngeal secretion viscosity, pain level, comfort level, and respiratory adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:The degree of nasopharyngeal mucosal reaction in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05).The viscosity of nasopharyngeal secretions in the observation group was better than that in the con-trol group(P<0.05).After treatment, the visual analog scale(VAS)scores of both groups decreased(P<0.05),while the general comfort questionnaire(GCQ)scores increased(P<0.05).The VAS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05),and the GCQ scores were higher(P<0.05).The incidence of respiratory adverse reactions in the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:The im-proved positioning nasopharyngeal irrigator is used to treat nasopharyngeal ulcers after NPC radiotherapy, which can reduce the degree of nasopharyngeal mucosal reaction and the viscosity of nasopharyngeal secretions, relieve pain,im-prove comfort, and reduce respiratory adverse reactions.
