Abstract:Objective:To explore the clinical effect of using diclofenac sodium and polyvinyl alcohol eye drops to treat dry eye syndrome in middle-aged and elderly patients after cataract surgery. Methods:A total of 92 middle-aged and elderly patients with postoperative dry eye syndrome after cataract surgery from October 2021 to October 2023 who were admitted in Jianhe Ethnic Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Guizhou Province were selected, and randomly divided into the observation group(n=46)and the control group(n=46).The control group was treated with diclofe-nac sodium and polyvinyl alcohol eye drops, while the observation group was treated with diclofenac eye drops combined with polyvinyl alcohol eye drops. The clinical efficacy, dry eye symptoms, tear film function, inflammatory factors and adverse reactions in both groups were compared. Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the ocular surface disease index(OSDI)scores in both groups were decreased(P<0.05),the observation group was lower than the con-trol group(P<0.05).After treatment, the tear secretion test I(SIT)and tear film rupture time(BUT)in both groups were prolonged(P<0.05),and corneal fluorescence staining(FL)were reduced(P<0.05),in comparison of the con-trol group, the BUT and SIT of study group was longer(P<0.05),and the FL was lower(P<0.05).After treat-ment,the interleukin-1 β(IL-1β),interleukin-2(IL-2),interleukin-6(IL-6),and interleukin-8(IL-8)lev-els in both groups were decreased(P<0.05),and the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclu-sion:The combination of diclofenac sodium and polyvinyl alcohol eye drops can improve clinical efficacy, improve dry eye symptoms and tear film function, promote relief of inflammatory response, with high safety in middle-aged and elderly patients with dry eye syndrome after cataract surgery.
