Measurement of serum soluble ST2 in patients with heart failure and its clinical implication

Abstract：Objective:To measure serum soluble ST2 level in patients with chronic heart falure and analyze its significance in diagnose and Condition assessment of heart failure.Methods:A total of 206 patients with chronic heart failure (CHF group,classed by NYHA Ⅱ ~ Ⅳ) and other 296 cases without heart failure (control group) were enrolled in the same period.Blood routine bio-chem istry project,serum level of BNP and sST2 was detected in both groups.The left ventricular end diastolicdiam eter (LVEDD) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were measured in all cases by cardiac color doppler ultra-sonic.The data were compared by statisticalanalysisin both groups.Results:Sig-nificant increased of serum soluble ST2 level was noted in CHF group com pared with control group(P<0.05),and indicated that it was positively correlated with the BNP level and cardiac function classes(r=-0.52,r=0.75,P<0.05).Ser-um level of soluble ST2 was positively correlated with LVEDD(r=0.69,P<0.05),but negatively correlated with LVEF(r=0.45,P<0.05).According to receiver operating characteristic curve analysis,their area under the curve for BNP and sST2 were 0.825 and 0.875,respectively,for the diagnosis of CHF.Conclusion:The certain relevance may be found between serum level of soluble ST2 and CHF in this investigation soluble ST2 may participate in the occurrence and ventricularrem odeling of CH F,which can provide certain clinical reference value forearly diagnosis,a degree of judgmentand prognosis assessment of CHF.
