Curative efficacy of thyroid hormone in combination with 131I therapy after total thyroidectomy in treating differentiated thyroid carcinoma and its effects on serum thyroglobulin

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of thyroid hormone in combination with131 I therapy after total thy-roidectomy in treating differentiated thyroid carcinoma(DTC)and its effects on serum thyroglobulin(Tg). Methods:All 98 ca-ses of DTC who underwent total thyroidectomy from January 2013 to June 2014 were selected as research subjects. According to therapeutic schemes after total thyroidectomy,those cases were divided into the hormone group(n = 56)and the131 I combina-tion group(n = 42). The hormone group was treated with thyroid hormone,and the131 I combination group was treated with thy-roid hormone in combination with131 I therapy. After the six - month follow - up,the curative efficacy,thyroid function and level of serum Tg were compared. Results:The131 I combination group had a total therapeutic efficacy of 95. 2% ,which was statisti-cally higher than that of 80. 4% in the hormone group(P < 0. 05). After the treatment,indices reflecting thyroid function of free triiodothyronine(FT3),free tetraiodothyronine(FT4)and thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)were statistically improved (all P < 0. 05),and thereˊs no statistical significance between the two groups(all P > 0. 05). 1 month,6 months after the treatment ,level of serum Tg in the131 I combination group was statistically lower than those in the hormone group( both P <0. 05). Conclusion:Combined treatment of thyroid hormone and131 I therapy after total thyroidectomy in treating differentiated thyroid carcinoma is effective,which can significantly increase curative efficacy,preserve normal thyroid function and reduce level of serum Tg.
