Abstract:Objective:ToevaluatethepreliminaryusageofPFNinsurgicaltreatmentofintertrochanterfracturescausedby osteoporosis in old patients and to explore peri-operative hidden blood loss following emergency operation. Methods:Twenty-eight patients treated with PFN,from January 2011 to January 2013,with comminuted intertrochanter fracturescaused by osteo-porosis were studied. Peri-operative hidden blood loss were analyzed. PFN was implanted by closed reduction and mini inci-sion. Results:The mean hidden blood loss was 811 mL,the mean observed blood loss was 92 mL,the mean total blood loss was 903 mL,each accounts for 10. 2% and 89. 8% in total blood loss, hidden blood loss was much more than observed blood loss. There were no difference between male and female group, obesity and normal group. Conclusion:Hidden blood loss was the ma-jor part of total blood loss after emergency operation for intertrochanteric femur fracture. It is very important to supplement the blood volume during peri-operative period. The gender and obesity are not the risk factors of the hidden blood loss.
