Abstract:Objective:To adapt the Seniors Empowerment and Advocacy in Patient Safety(SEAPS)scale into the local context and to validate its among elderly stroke patients,so as to provide a reliable tool for assessing the level of self-advocacy in older patients. Methods:The Brislin translation model was used for translation,back-translation,and cultural adaptation of the SEAPS.A convenience sample of 431 elderly stroke patients from a Grade A tertiary hospital in Wuxi city was surveyed to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Results:Exploratory factor analysis extracted four factors:behavior,self-efficacy,outcome efficacy, and attitude, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 83.495%.Item analysis showed correlations between each item and the total score.Content validity analysis indicated that the item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.83 to 1.00,and the scale-level content validity index(S-CVI/Ave)was 0.968.Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated a good model fit for the scale. The scale's Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.966,and the test-retest reliability was 0.916.Conclusions:The Chinese version of the SEAPS has good psychometric properties. It can be effectively used to assess the level of self-advocacy in elderly stroke patients.
