Abstract:Objective:To translate the OsloMet Adherence-to-Medication Survey tool(OMAS-37)into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity. To investigate the status and influencing factors of medication adherence in elderly patients with chronic diseases. Methods:Following the Brislin translation model, the OMAS-37 was translated through forward translation,back-translation,cultural adaptation, and pilot testing to develop the Chinese version.A total of 442 adult medication-taking patients from a grade A tertiary hospital in Wuhan city was surveyed from April to June 2023 to evaluate the scale's reliability and validity.A convenience sample of 199 elderly patients with chronic disease from the same hospital was surveyed from September to October 2023 using a General Information Questionnaire and the Chinese version OMAS-37 to investigate adherence status and to analyze its influencing factors. Results:The Chinese version of the OMAS-37 comprised 33 items across 10 dimensions. The Cronbach's α for the total scale was 0.849.The split-half reliability was 0.835.Cronbach's α coefficients for the individual dimensions were 0.824-0.934.The item-level content validity index(I-CVI)was 0.860.The scale-level content validity index based on universal agreement(S-CVI/UA)was 0.818.The average scale-level content validity index(S-CVI/Ave)was 0.818.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 10 common factors, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 69.327%.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good model fit indices.Among the 199 elderly patients,58(29.15%)demonstrated good medication adherence.Regression analysis identified age, gender, and living arrangement were influencing factors for medication adherence(P<0.05).Conclusions:The Chinese version of the OMAS-37 demonstrates good reliability and validity.Age,gender, and living arrangement are influencing factors for medication adherence in elderly patients with chronic diseases.
