Reliability and validity test of the Social Capital Scale for Elderly with Depression after Relocation

Abstract：Objective:To test the reliability and validity of the Social Capital Scale for Elderly with Depression after Relocation.Methods:The system reviewed the literature to initially construct the index system items.The Social Capital Scale for Elderly with Depression after Relocation was formed through the Delphi method.A multi-stage stratified sampling method was adopted to select 1 166 elderly people with depression who were relocated from 24 resettlement sites in Shanxi province for a questionnaire survey to test the reliability and validity of the scale.Results:Three rounds of expert consultation were conducted.The active coefficient of experts was 100%.The authority coefficient was 0.830.The Kendall harmony coefficients were 0.116,0.228,and 0.389 respectively(all P<0.001).The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total scale was 0.908.The split reliability was 0.714.The Cronbach's α coefficients of each dimension were 0.881,0.816,0.858,0.849,0.835 and 0.705 respectively.The average of scale-level content validity index(S-CVI/Ave)was 0.958.The item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.800 to 1.000.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 6 common factors with eigenvalues greater than 1.The cumulative variance contribution rate was 59.921%.The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fitted well.The final scale consists of six dimensions(social network,social participation,trust,reciprocity,sense of belonging and group cohesion)and 30 items.Conclusions:The Social Capital Scale for Elderly with Depression after Relocation has high reliability and validity.It could be used as a measurement tool for evaluating the social capital of relocated elderly people with depression.
