Abstract:Objective:To explore the impact of prophylactic use of glucocorticoids and antihistamines on infusion reactions of patients during treatment with Infliximab. Methods:Inflammatory bowel disease patients treated with infliximab in the gastroenterology department of two tertiary grade A hospitals from January 1,2021 to December 31,2022 were retrospective selected.Patients from one hospital who received prophylactic use of anti-allergic drugs before infusion were selected as the prophylactic medication group, while patients from another hospital who did not receive prophylactic use of anti-allergic drugs were selected as the non-prophylactic medication group. The incidence of infusion reactions was recorded of two groups. Results:A total of 214 patients with inflammatory bowel disease were included, including 114 in the prophylactic medication group and 100 in the non-prophylactic medication group. Both groups did not experience any infusion reactions or loss of response. Conclusions:The use of glucocorticoids, antihistamines alone or their combination therapy has no significant effect on reducing the risk of infliximab infusion in the Chinese population. It is recommended that if patients have not experienced any previous infliximab infusion reactions, prophylactic medication could not be administered before infusion.
