Development of the discharge needs assessment scale for elderly patients after hip fracture surgery and its reliability and validity test

Abstract：Objective:To develop a discharge needs assessment scale for elderly patients after hip fracture surgery and to test its reliability and validity.Methods:The discharge needs assessment scale for elderly patients after hip fracture surgery was developed through literature review,expert consultation,and pre-survey.The reliability and validity of the scale were tested with 94 elderly patients after hip fracture surgery from a tertiary grade A hospital in Beijing city.Results:A total of 8 literature pieces were included,extracting 29 pieces of evidence on the discharge needs of elderly patients after hip fracture surgery.The effective response rates for the two rounds of expert consultation were both 100.0%.The expert authority coefficients were 0.94 and 0.96,respectively.In the second round of expert consultation,the mean scores for item importance ranged from 4.63 to 4.95.The full score rates ranged from 68.42%to 94.74%.The Kendall's coefficient of concordance was 0.09(P<0.05).The coefficient of variation for each item ranged from 0.00 to 0.16.The overall Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.857.The split-half reliability was 0.457.The item-level content validity index ranged from 0.895 to 1.000.The scale-level content validity index was 0.526.Exploratory factor analysis extracted three common factors with eigenvalues greater than 1.The cumulative variance contribution rate was 78.234%.The final discharge needs assessment scale for elderly patients after hip fracture surgery included 3 first-level items,6 second-level items,and 18 third-level items.Conclusions:The developed discharge needs assessment scale for elderly patients after hip fracture surgery demonstrates good practicality.It could serve as a reference for assessing the discharge needs of elderly patients after hip fracture surgery.
