Abstract:Objective:To investigate the status quo of continuing medical education(CME)in Shanxi province,to identify existing management issues, and to provide a basis for health administrative departments to formulate policies. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted by retrieving and analyzing data from the Shanxi province CME management platform as of 24:00 on June 30,2023.Results:In 2023,the coverage rate of CME in Shanxi Province reached 100.00%at the provincial-level healthcare institutions,100.00%at the municipal-level healthcare institutions, and 100.00%at the county-level healthcare institutions. For township health centers, the coverage rate was 97.96%,while community healthcare institutions had a coverage rate of 83.09%.The coverage rate for village clinics was 44.43%,and for private and individual healthcare providers,it stood at 62.53%.In 2023,a total of 183 630 health technicians in Shanxi province participated in CME,with a participation rate of 90.15%,though variations existed among different cities. The number of participants who met the standards was 170 003,with a compliance rate of 92.58%.Compliance rates varied among health technicians with different professional titles, ranked from highest to lowest as follows:intermediate, associate senior, primary, and full senior titles.Among nursing staff, compliance rates also differed, ordered as:nurse practitioners, supervising nurses, staff nurses, associate chief nurses, and chief nurses.Compliance rates also varied across different professional roles, ranked from highest to lowest as:nurses, technicians, pharmacists, and physicians. In 2023,96 789 nursing professionals in Shanxi province were included in CME management, with 88 257 participating, yielding a participation rate of 91.18%and a compliance rate of 94.63%.Conclusions:Rural clinics, private, and individual healthcare institutions remain the weak points in CME in Shanxi province. The participation rates in CME vary across cities in Shanxi province, primarily due to differences in the emphasis placed by local health administrative departments, implementation of CME policies and systems, organizational management, and the dedication, knowledge, and capabilities of full-time CME managers.Nursing staff, particularly junior nurses and those seeking professional title promotions, demonstrate higher enthusiasm for participating in CME.
