Sinicization of the Spouses'version of the Hypoglycemia Fear Survey and its reliability and validity test

Abstract：Objective:To translate the Spouses'version of the Hypoglycemia Fear Survey(SHFS)into Chinese,and to test its reliability and validity among the spouses of diabetic patients.Methods:Based on the Brislin model,SHFS was translated forward,translated back,cultural adaptation and pre-investigated to form the Chinese version of SHFS.By using the convenience sampling method,a total of 315 spouses of diabetic patients who visited the endocrinology departments of three tertiary grade A hospitals in Yangzhou city from February to June 2024 were selected for the investigation to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scale.Results:The Chinese version of SHFS included two subscales:the Chinese version of the Spouses'version of the Hypoglycemia Fear Survey-Behavior Subscale(SHFS-B)and the Chinese version of the Spouses'version of the Hypoglycemia Fear Survey-Worry Subscale(SHFS-W),with a total of 31 items.The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.957.The Chinese version of SHFS-B included 13 items.The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.932.The split-half reliability was 0.940.The test-retest reliability was 0.884.The Chinese version of SHFS-W included 18 items.The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.939.The split-half reliability was 0.942.The test-retest reliability was 0.804.The universal agreement of scale-level content validity index(S-CVI/UA)of the Chinese version of SHFS was 0.903.The item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.846 to 1.000.The S-CVI/UA of the Chinese versions of SHFS-B and SHFS-W were 0.846 and 0.944 respectively.Both the Chinese version of SHFS-B and the Chinese version of SHFS-W exploratory factor analyses extracted one common factor.The cumulative variance contribution rates were 60.088%and 69.807%,respectively.The Chinese versions of SHFS-B and SHFS-W were positively correlated with the total score of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder(P<0.001).Conclusion:The Chinese version of SHFS has good reliability and validity.It could be used as an assessment tool for measuring hypoglycemic fear in spouses of diabetic patients in China.
