Abstract:Objective:To understand the status quo of age-friendly modifications in the residential environments of homebound elderly with disabilities in communities. Methods:A total of 87 homebound elderly with disabilities from Baise city were selected as study subjects by convenience sampling from January to April,2024.Surveys were conducted using a general information questionnaire, the Barthel Index Rating Scale, and a questionnaire on age-friendly modifications in the residential environments. Results:Among the 87 homebound elderly with disabilities in communities,54 exhibited mild dependence in activities of daily living,26 exhibited moderate dependence, and 7 exhibited completely dependent.Their activities scores of daily living were negatively correlated with age-friendly modification scores of bathrooms(r=-0.458,P<0.001)and bedrooms(r=-0.320,P=0.003),but positively correlated with age-friendly modification scores of kitchen(r=0.453,P<0.001).The modification rate of residential environments adaptations ranged from 20.7%to 95.4%.Both completely dependent and moderately dependent elders scored significantly higher in bathroom modifications than mildly dependent individuals(P<0.05),while scored significantly lower in kitchen modifications than mildly dependent individuals(P<0.05).Completely dependent elders scored significantly higher in bedroom modification than both moderate dependence and mild dependence individuals(P<0.05).Conclusions:Age-friendly modifications in the residential environments of homebound elderly with disabilities in communities required further improvement.Mildly dependent individuals need enhanced awareness of preventive age-friendly modifications of bathroom.Families should better understand kitchen environment adaptations for the functional needs of moderate dependence and completely dependent individuals.Targeted interventions should be implemented to enhance families' awareness of age-friendly modifications of bedroom for elderly with disabilities.
