Best evidence summary for upper limb exercise of PICC patients

Abstract:Objective:To summarize the best evidence on upper limb exercise of patients with peripherally inserted central catheters(PICC).Methods:Evidence-based questions were constructed based on the PIPOST model.Literature related to upper limb exercise of PICC patients was retrieved in China and international databases,with the search period ranged from database inception to May 31,2024.The best evidence was extracted after screening and quality evaluation of the retrieved literature.Results:A total of 20 literature were included,involving 1 clinical decision,2 guidelines,7 systematic reviews,3 expert consensuses,3 evidence summaries,and 4 randomized controlled trials.Ultimately,31 pieces of best evidence were summarized under 5 themes(benefits of exercise,exercise methods,exercise duration,frequency and intensity,precautions,and effect evaluation.Conclusions:Healthcare professionals should scientifically apply the best evidence on upper limb exercise of PICC patients based on patient's wishes,physical tolerance and compliance,aiming to provide personalized exercise guidance.
