Application of Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis to define health anxiety in the elderly

Abstract:Objective:To define the concept of health anxiety in the elderly using Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis.Methods:Systematic searches were conducted in the CNKI,Wanfang Database,VIP,PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,and EMbase databases.Literature was screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.Results:A total of 105 articles were included,comprising 84 English-language articles and 21 Chinese-language articles.The conceptual attributes of health anxiety in the elderly encompassed three aspects,namely anxiety sensitivity,low tolerance for uncertainty,and emotional dysregulation.The antecedents were categorized into three aspects,namely personal factors,social factors,and technological factors.While the consequences primarily included three aspects,namely impacts on individual health,effects on family health,and increased burden on societal healthcare resources.Conclusions:To clarify concept of health anxiety in the elderly could provide a reference for future research on this topic.It also could offer insights for the development of assessment tools and theoretical models related to health anxiety in the elderly.
