Application of Humanitude care methodology in elderly patients with cognitive impairment

Abstract：Objective:To explore the application effect of Humanitude care methodology in elderly patients with cognitive impairment.Methods:A total of 74 elderly patients with cognitive impairment admitted to a certain elderly care center were divided into intervention group and control group according to the wards,with 37 cases in each.The patients in control group received routine care.The patients in intervention group incorporated the Humanitude care methodology on the basis of routine care.The Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE),Barthel Index,Neuropsychiatric Inventory-Nursing Home Version Score(NPI-NH)and Quality of Life Alzheimer's Disease(QOL-AD)scores of the two groups were compared before the intervention and 12 weeks after the intervention.Results:At 12 weeks after the intervention,the total scores of MMSE,NPI-NH and QOL-AD in the intervention group were all better than those in the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusions:The Humanitude care methodology could improve cognitive function,self-care ability,dementia-related mental and behavioral symptoms,and quality of life in the elderly with cognitive impairment.
