Abstract:Objective:To explore the grief experiences of family members who have lost a loved one due to cancer and their intergenerational impacts, and to deeply explore the genetic fears and anxieties of these bereaved individuals,so as to provide a basis for formulating targeted intervention measures. Methods:A hermeneutic phenomenological qualitative research method was adopted.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 family members of a patient who died of nasopharyngeal carcinoma 3 years ago.Thematic analysis was carried out through NVivo 14.Results:Five major themes were extracted:the different manifestations of grief responses across different generations, the interaction and influence of grief among family generations, coping with grief, insufficient understanding of palliative care and grief counseling, and fear of cancer heredity and recurrence. Conclusions:There was heterogeneity in intergenerational grief responses.Attention should be paid to the intergenerational grief transmission chain within families.Precise intervention should be implemented in combination with cultural differences and spiritual support, and multi-generational group counseling should be promoted.
