Abstract:Objective:To explore the effect of venous foot pump on venous thromboembolism of patients undergoing major orthopedic operation. Methods:A total of 180 patients undergoing major orthopedic operation in a tertiary grade A hospital in Jiangsu province were selected as the research subjects by convenience sampling method from January to December 2023.The patients were randomly divided into control group,1 hour group,>1~6 hours group,>6~12 hours group,>12~<18 hours group,and≥18 hours group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was intervened with low molecular weight heparin calcium. While the 1 hour group,>1~6 hours group,>6~12 hours group,>12~<18 hours group,and≥18 hours group received intervention using venous foot pump on the basis of the control group, with daily intervention times of 1 hour,>1~6 hours,>6~12 hours,>12~<18 hours,≥18 hours until discharges. The incidence of venous thromboembolism,D-dimer levels, and limb circumference of patients were compared. Results:During the research process,20 patients were lost to follow-up.Finally,30 patients in control group completed the study,29 patients in 1 hour group completed the study,28 patients in>1~6 hours group completed the study,25 patients in>6~12 h group completed the study,24 patients in>12~<18 h group completed the study,24 patients in≥18 hours group completed the study. There were statistically significant differences in terms of the incidence of venous thromboembolism among the six groups of patients(P<0.05).D-dimer levels of patients had temporal and interclass effects(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in terms of thigh circumference between the≥18 hours group and the preoperative group at 7 days after surgery(P>0.05).There were no statistically significant difference in calf circumference between>6~12 hours group,>12~<18 hours group,≥18 hours group and the preoperative group at 7 days after surgery(all P>0.05).Conclusions:The prolonged use of plantar venous pumps is beneficial for reducing the incidence of venous thromboembolism, lowering serum D-dimer levels, and alleviating swelling in the affected limbs of patients undergoing major orthopedic operation.
