Abstract:Objective:To explore the impact of nursing intervention based on the Information-Knowledge-attitude-practice(IKAP)model on the caregiving ability of family caregivers of patients with dementia. Methods:A total of 76 caregivers of dementia patients who visited the outpatient department of the department of neurology in a third grade A hospital in Shanxi province from August to November 2023 were selected as the research subjects and randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group, with 38 cases in each group.Caregivers in the control group received routine nursing care, while caregivers in the intervention group received nursing intervention based on the IKAP theory in addition to routine nursing care. Before the intervention and 12 weeks after the intervention, the Caregiver Skill Inventory for Dementia Patients, the General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES),and the Chinese version of the Quality of Life in Alzheimer's Disease Scale(QOL-AD)were used to survey the two groups respectively. Results:In the end,37 cases in the intervention group and 36 cases in the control group completed the study. The caregiving ability score of caregivers in the intervention group was(159.14±4.60),and the self-efficacy score was(33.89±1.88),which were better than those in the control group[(145.89±6.15),(26.28±2.60)].The quality of life score of dementia patients was(37.35±3.21),which was higher than that in the control group(29.25±2.41),and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:The nursing intervention program based on IKAP could improve the caregiving ability and self-efficacy of caregivers and also enhance the quality of life of dementia patients.
