Abstract:Objective:Guided by the 4R crisis management theory,we aim to optimize infection control protocols for public health emergencies in general hospitals, providing a foundation for addressing future emerging infectious diseases. Methods:Using purposeful sampling,24 staff involved in infection control-related work in six tertiary general hospitals in Shanxi Province from January 2020 to May 2023 were interviewed. The interview data were analyzed using the Colaizzi 7-step analysis method. Results:Based on the 4R crisis theory, four primary themes were extracted:reduction, readiness, response, and recovery, encompassing 15 secondary themes. Conclusion:General hospitals face challenges such as inadequate health infrastructure, lack of in-depth infection control concepts, insufficient refinement of emergency response plans and monitoring mechanisms, monotonous training modes, and weak intelligence during public health emergencies.Interviews with key populations and the summarization of experiences can provide flexible strategies for responding to such events and improve precise prevention and control measures.
