Effect research of meditation intervention on cognitive impairment in elderly patients with Alzheimer's disease

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of meditation intervention on cognitive impairment in elderly patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD).Methods:A total of 214 elderly patients with AD in our hospital from Jan 2016 to Dec 2016 were assigned into 2 groups (107 cases each group),the control group was given routine nursing of the senile psychiatric department,and the observation group was given meditation intervention on the basis of the control group.Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE),Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised of China (WMS-RC),Meta-Cognitions Questionnaire 30 (MCQ-30),and Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ) were used to assess the cognitive function of these two groups before and after the intervention.Results:Before the intervention,there was no significant difference in scores of MMSE,subscales of WMS-RC,MCQ-30,and FAQ between these two groups (P>0.05);after the intervention,scores of MMSE and subscales of WMS-RC in the observation group were obvious higher than those of the control group (P<0.05);scores of cognitive confidence dimension,cognitive self-consciousness dimension of MCQ-30 in the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05);score of FAQ in the observation group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:Meditation intervention could increase the cognitive ability and meta-cognitive level of the elderly patients with AD,and improve the functional defect condition.
