Symptom clusters of lung cancer patients and correlation between them and anxiety and depression

Abstract:Objective:To probe into discuss the correlation of symptoms clusters types and anxiety and depression of lung cancer patients.Methods:A total of 90 lung cancer patients from a third Grade A hospital in Hebei province were enrolled in this study by using convenience sample method.Chinese Version of the M.D.Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI-C),The Symptom Module Specific to Liver Cancer(TSM-LC),Anxiety Scale(SAS),and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) were used to investigate the patients.Results:Varieties of common symptoms were identified in lung cancer patients.The most severe symptoms included sore throat,numbness,distressed,nausea,and lack of appetite.Exploratory factor analysis revealed four major symptom clusters including general cluster,upper-gastrointestinal cluster,lung cancer-specific cluster,and pain-related cluster.The anxiety score of lung cancer patients was (43.34±7.10).There were 79 cases (89.4%) in different degree of anxiety.The depression score was (48.03±10.47).There were 30 cases(35.3%)in different degree of depression.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the upper gastrointestinal symptoms and general symptoms were effective predictors of anxiety and depressive symptoms.Conclusions:Patients with lung cancer have multiple symptom clusters,and the symptom group has a certain effect on the patient's anxiety and depression.
