Correlation between comprehensive support system and risk of falls of the community elderly

Abstract:Objective:To explore the incidence of falls in community elderly and the impact of the social support system on falls,in order to provide the basis for the prevention of falls in the elderly.Methods:The elderly aged 75 and older in a city community were enrolled in this study and were investigated by Falls Risk for Older People in the Community Screening Tool (FROP-Com).Results:In the last year,824 elderly fell one time (23.9%),194 elderly fell two times (5.6%),79 elderly fell over three times (2.3%),and the incidence of falls was 31.8%.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender,age,marriage condition,culture degree,communication with their children,visit frequency of children,help provided by their children,relationship with neighbors,relationship with relatives and friends,community psychological counseling,and social activity frequency were influencing factors of falls in the community elderly.Conclusions:There was a high incidence of falls in the community elderly.The falls of the community elderly were affected by family,community and social support.
