Application of acupoint massage in nursing care of community dementia patients
Abstract：Objective:To study the effect of long term acupoint massage in nursing care of community dementia patients.Methods:A total of 80 patients with senile dementia treated in our hospital from January 2010 to De-cember 2015 were randomly divided into experimental group (n=42)and control group (n=38).The patients in control group were treated with routine nursing.The patients in experimental group were treated with acu-point massage nursing on the basis of routine nursing.The two groups were investigated at the time before the intervention,after 3 months intervention,and after 6 months intervention using scales including:Hasegawa's Dementia Scale (HDS),Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE),modified version of Alzheimer's Daily Liv-ing Ability Scale (ADL),and Quality of Life Alzheimer's disease (QOL AD).Results:After 6 months'in-tervention,the scores of HDS,MMSE,ADL and QOL AD in experimental group were significantly higher than those before intervention and in control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Long term acupoint massage could im-prove the symptoms of senile dementia patients in the community and delay the progress of the disease.
