Self-assessment status quo and influencing factors of clinical nurses' participation in shared governance

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the self-assessment of clinical nurses'' ability to participate in shared governance and to probe into its main influencing factors,so as to provide evidences and suggestions for the development of shared governance.Methods:A total of 1 943 in-service clinical nurses in a third grade A hospital in Wuhan were selected as the survey objects,and the general data questionnaire and nursing personnel participation in construction of shared governance questionnaire were used to investigate their abilities.Results:The total self-assessment score of clinical nurses'' ability to participate in shared governance was 36.00(33.00,41.00).The ability of self perception has been ranked the top 3 in turn having good communication and coordination ability,friendly living with patients,colleagues and superiors;reasonable arrangement and planning of tasks,and completing on time;mastering clinical professional skills for caring patients and can provide a personalized care measures for the patients.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the influencing factors of their ability level were the clinical nurses'' gender,length of service,whether they were married or not and their understanded of shared governance(P<0.05).Conclusion:The clinical nurses were outstanding in aspects of performance in communication and coordination,organization management and professional practice ability.Scientific research ability,leadership and professional autonomy level were lower,which were due to multiple factors.In the process of shared governance,we should make use of the pioneering role of male nurses,adopt individualized training measures for clinical nurses with different working years,increase the concern of nurses''emotional support,focus on raising nurses'' cognition of shared governance,to lay the foundation for success.
