Correlation between social support and quality of life in age-related macular degeneration
Abstract:Objective:To investigate the status quo of visual related quality of life and social support in age-related macular degeneration patients,and to explore the relationship between them.Methods:Quality of life and social support were evaluated in 120 patients with age-related macular degeneration by using the MacDQoL and the Social Support Rating Scale(PSSS),and the relationship between visual related quality of life and social support was analyzed.Results:The total score of MacPQoL in age-related macular degeneration patients was-75.95±52.43.Influence of macular degeneration on the quality of life of patients in the top 5 were the shopping,hobbies/leisure activities,personal affairs,going out and spend time.Age-related macular degeneration patients''PSSS score was 21.06±3.98 inside family support,at a high level,outside family support score was 36.22±8.09,at a moderate level.The overall support score was 55.87±10.45.The inside family support score of age-related macular olegeneration patients was negatively related to the dimensions scores and total score of MacDQoL scale(P<0.05).Outside family support score was negatively related to the personal relationship,physical exercise and unfortunate event scores(P<0.05).Conclusions:Nurses should pay attention to the relationship between the degree of social support and the quality of life of age-related macular degeneration patients in order to improve the patient''s visual related quality of life.
