Investigation and cluster analysis on job burnout and organizational career management of nurses in geriatric hospital

Abstract:Objective:To understand job burnout and the perception of organizational career management among nurses in the geriatric hospital,and to provide a reference for nursing managers to formulate targeted interventions.Methods:A total of 229 nurses in the geriatric hospital were investigated by Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Occupational Career Management Questionnaire,and the results were analyzed by cluster analysis.Results:The nurses in geriatric hospital scored (35.51±13.48) on job burnout,and (50.62±9.43) on organizational career management.Through cluster analysis,the nurses were divided into two categories: nurses in type Ⅰ scored higher on job burnout and other dimensions than those of type Ⅱ,while scored lower on organizational career management and other dimensions than those of type Ⅱ(P<0.01).There were statistically significant differences between the two types of nurses in titles,educational background,willingness to stay in current jobs and job satisfaction (P<0.01).Conclusions:The nurses in the geriatric hospital had a lower degree of job burnout and more active perception in organizational career management.However,there was a significant difference between nurses.Nursing managers needed to take targeted measures according to different types of nurses,so as to promote the stability of the nursing team.
