Correlative research between emotional intelligence and anxiety of college nursing students

Abstract:Objective:To probe into the status quo of emotional intelligence and anxiety of college nursing students,and to provide basis for nursing intervention.Methods:A questionnaire survey was conducted among 726 nursing students in grade one and grade three in nursing schools in Chengdu city by convenience cluster sampling method.Results:The total score of emotional intelligence of nursing students was(3.63±0.39).The highest score was the emotional management of others(3.80±0.50).The lowest score was emotion perception(3.45±0.43).Anxiety standard score was(46.66±8.77),which was significantly higher than domestic norm(P<0.01).211 persons(29.1%) anxiety score was abnormal,among them mild anxiety 164 persons(22.6%),moderate anxiety 32 persons(4.4%),severe anxiety 15 persons(2.1%);The total score of emotional intelligence had a significant effect on the anxiety of nursing students(P=0.023).There was a negative correlation between the anxiety standard scores and the dimensions of emotional intelligence and the total score(r=-0.198~-0.103).Binay logistic regression results showd that the total score of emotional intelligence items could accurately predict whether nursing students was anxicty,and its probability was up to 70.9%,the results were statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusions:Emotional intelligence could accurately classify the state of anxiety,and nursing educators should train the emotional intelligence of nursing students in order to improve the level of emotional intelligence and reduce the incidence of anxiety.
