Application of creative storytelling project for elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment

Abstract:Objective:To probe into the application effect of creative storytelling project for elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).Methods:A total of 72 elderly patients with MCI who had treated in our hos-pital from July 2014 to June 2015 were selected and randomly divided into two groups,36 cases in each.Patients in control group were given piracetam treatment.Patients in observation group were intervened with creative storytelling proj ect on the basis of medication therapy.Cognitive function of all patients was assessed by adop-ting the mini mental state examination scale(MMSE)before and after the intervention respectively.The emo-tional state of all patients was evaluated by adopting the self rating anxiety scale(SAS)and the self rating de-pression scale(SDS)respectively.The quality of life of all patients was assessed by adopting the Chinese version of the QOL BREF before and after the intervention respectively.Results:There was no statistically significant difference in terms of MMSE,SAS,SDS and QOL BREF scores of patients between both groups before the in-tervention(P>0.05).The memory,attention and computing power,delayed memory,language dimension and total score of the MMSE scale in observation group patients after the intervention were higher than these of con-trol group patients(P<0.05).The SAS and SDS scores in observation group were lower than those in control group(P<0.05).In QOL BREF scale,scores of psychological field and social relationship in observation group were higher than those in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:creative storytelling project could improve the cognitive function and bad mood of elderly patients with MCI,and enhance their quality of life.
