Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions for smoking cessation in diabet-ic patients. Methods:By searching the Cochrane Library, the Joanna Briggs Institute Library,PubMed,Springer, MEDLINE,EMBASE,EBSCO,CBM,CNKI,VIP and WanFang Data from inception to August 31,2015,ran-domized controlled trials(RCTs)on psychosocial interventions versus usual care in smokers with diabetes were collected.RevMan 5.3 software was adopted for Meta analysis. Results:Twelve RCTs were included involving 2 089 patients. The results of meta analysis indicated that psychosocial interventions significantly increased the absti-nence rate at 1 months[RR=2.18,95%CI(1.28,3.71),P=0.004]and 3 months[RR=2.52,95%CI(1.32,4.80), P=0.005].However,the point prevalence abstinence rates at 4 months[RR=0.93,95%CI(0.49,1.76),P=0.82], 6 months[RR=1.32,95%CI(0.23,7.43),P=0.76;RR=1.73,95%CI(0.84,3.55),P=0.14],8 months[RR=1.24,95%CI(0.76,2.01),P=0.38]and 12 months[RR=0.77,95%CI(0.10,5.71),P=0.80;RR=1.74,95%CI(0.33,9.05),P=0.51].There were no significant differences between the two groups.Conclusions:Psycho-logical interventions are effective in short term(within 3 months)smoking cessation. However, the effective-ness is not clear for medium and long term smoking cessation.Owing to the limited quantity and quality of the included studies, more large scale high quality RCTs are required to verify the aforementioned conclusion.
