Correlation study between personality traits and chemotherapy related symptoms in patients with breast cancer dur-ing postoperative chemotherapy
Abstract:Objective:To probe into the relationship between personality traits and chemotherapy related symp-toms in patients with breast cancer during postoperative chemotherapy,which aimed to provide evidence for clinical symptoms management.Methods:A total of 296 cases of breast cancer patients during postoperative chemotherapy were investigated by symptom assessment scale and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ RSC)of breast cancer patients.Results:Total average score of chemotherapy related symptoms in the group of breast cancer patients was 0.87 ±0.43,the top five symptoms of incidence followed by alopecia(89.2%),de-pression(85.8%),fatigue(85.8%),nausea(78.7%)and difficulty concentrating(75.7%),the digestive tract symptom group score was the highest(1.30±0.42),hormone related symptoms score was the lowest(0.76±0.15).In all personality traits except the psychoticism,the scores of outward,neurotic and disguised in breast cancer pa-tients were higher than the national norm(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that the outward in personali-ty traits were negatively correlated with all chemotherapy related symptoms,while the neurotic was positively correlated with the chemotherapy related symptoms.The incidence of was higher in neurotic and the private pa-tients.Conclusion:There was a certain correlation between personality traits and chemotherapy related symp-toms in patients with breast cancer during postoperative chemotherapy,and the incidence of all symptoms was higher in the patients with neurotic or introverted.The targeted intervention should be taken in clinical work.
