Status quo of core competence of PICC specialist nurses in a third grade A hospital and analysis of its influencing factors

Abstract：Objective:To know about the status quo of core competence of PICC specialist nurses and analyze its influencing factors.Methods:A total of 106 PICC specialist nurses from a third grade A hospital in Hunan prov-ince were surveyed on their core competence by using the theoretical knowledge examination,operation assess-ment and questionnaire survey,and analyzed the influence of specialist nurses’age,working years,professional title,the highest degree,whether to participate in continuing education training or not,the continuing education training frequency,the cases number of past catheter and the catheter life on core competence.Results:PICC specialist nurses’performance in the operation technology was better,but the scores of the theoretical knowl-edge and related ability were low,especially the scores of the pharmacology and infection control among the the-oretical knowledge and the education research among the relevant ability were not at qualified level.The age, professional title,whether to participate in continuing education training or not,continuing education training frequency,the cases number of past catheter and the catheter life could affect the core competence of PICC spe-cialist nurses in a certain extent.Conclusion:The hospitals should strengthen the training of PICC specialist nurses,which focus on the learning of basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine knowledge and infection con-trol knowledge,and develop their ability of scientific research and education emphatically;the nursing managers should take full account of their age,professional title,whether to participate in continuing education training or not and other factors when in the access of PICC specialist nurses and the qualification of re certification.
