Correlation study between empathy ability and personality characteristics of undergraduate nursing students in Xin-jiang Uygur Autonomous Region

Abstract：Objective:To probe into the correlation between empathy ability and personality characteristics of un‐dergraduate nursing students in Xinjiang Area .Methods:Jefferson empathy scale and the big five Inventory were used to investigated 445 undergraduate nursing students in two medical colleges in Xinjiang ,and the results were analyzed .Results:Nursing students’empathy ability score among different genders ,different grades was different .Personality characteristics of nursing students in different grades were different .There was a negative correlation between the 3 dimensions of neuroticism and empathy .Extraversion ,openness ,agreeableness facets and conscientiousness were positively correlated with 5 dimensions of the personality .Conclusion:There was correlation between empathy ability and personality characteristics of nursing students .Change of personality characteristics was of great significance to improve the empathy ability .
