Study on correlation between scientific research ability and critical thinking attitude propensity of nursing under-graduate

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the status quo of scientific research ability and critical thinking attitude ori-entation of nursing undergraduates and to probe into the correlation between them,so as to provide the theoreti-cal basis to improve the scientific research ability of nursing undergraduates.Methods:A cross sectional survey study and quota sampling method was used.A total of 277 full time undergraduates from grade one to grade four in Chengdu University School of Nursing were selected as subjects for questionnaire by a cross sectional survey study and quota sampling method.The questionnaire consisted of general information questionnaire,the self assessment scale of nursing scientific research ability,the Chinese version of critical thinking attitude ori-entation questionnaire.Results:The total score of nursing undergraduates’critical thinking attitude propensity was(278.06±28.40).Self confidence of critical thinking scored the lowest.Cognitive maturity got the highest score;the total score of nursing scientific research ability was(52.96 ± 17.72),essay writing ability with the highest score.Scientific research and design ability got the lowest score.Nursing scientific research ability was positively correlated with critical thinking attitude propensity scores(r =0.21 1),the self confidence of critical thinking(r=0.317),systematic ability(r=0.294),the thirst for knowledge(r =0.238)and the analysis ability (r=0.187).Conclusion:The nursing undergraduates’scientific research ability level is lower.The critical think-ing attitude orientation is unknown.The scientific research ability was positively correlated with critical thinking attitude orientation.In school education,the nursing scientific research ability can be improved through strengthening students’ability of consciously using critical thinking,namely to strengthen nursing undergradu-ates’critical thinking attitude propensity.
