Influence of overall physical and mental adjustment combined with entertainment therapy on depression and subjective wel l being of the aged in nursing homes
Abstract:Obj ective:To probe into the influence of overall physical and men-tal adj ustment combined with entertainment therapy on depression and sub-jective well being of the aged in nursing home.Methods:A total of 80 cases of elderly people with 60 years old to 80 years old who were in clear con-sciousness and no deaf and blind and without psychiatric disorders and com-munication disorders were randomly divided into control group and interven-tion group,40 cases in each.The patients in control group received routine health education,and supportive psychotherapy and recreational activities were given them,beside that,the elderly people in intervention group were given the overall physical and mental adj ustment combined with entertain-ment therapy.According to the living habits of elderly people in nursing homes,training was carried out for three times a week,every 45 min~60 min,lasting for three months.The patients’depression and anxiety were as-sessed by using the Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS)and self rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)in both groups of older people before intervention and in 3 months after the intervention;the profile of mood states(POMS)was used to evaluate the patients’emotional state;the Newfoundland subjective happi-ness scale was used to evaluate the patients’subjective well being.Re-sults:Before the intervention,there was not statistically significant difference in scores of POMS,GDS,SAS and subj ective well being between two pa-tients(P>0.05);after 3 months of the intervention,there was statistically significant difference in tension anxiety,depression depression,fatigue inert,vitality a good move scores of POMS score in intervention group be-tween before and after 3 months of the intervention,GDS,SAS and subj ec-tive happiness scores in intervention group were better than that in control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:The overall physical and mental adjustment combined with entertainment treatment contributes to the mood improve-ment of elderly people in nursing homes and improve their subjective well being.
