Study on correlation between achievement motivation and work engagement of nursing undergraduates at the beginning of clinical practice

Abstract：Obj ective:To understand the status quo of achievement moti-vation and work engagement of nursing undergraduates at the beginning of clinical practice and the correlation between them.Methods:A total of 132 nursing undergraduates were investigated by applying the work en-gagement scale and the individual difference’questionnaire on the a-chievement motivation at the beginning of clinical practice.Results:The overall score of work engagement of nursing undergraduates was (73.24± 11.34).The overall score of achievement motivation was(-23.20±28.15);Those who pursue success accounted for 13.64%;those who avoided fail-ure accounted for 59.09%.There was greatly statistical significance in work engagement among nursing undergraduates who have different de-gree in occupational satisfaction and different aspiration in clinical nurs-ing (P<0.01).The higher degree in occupational satisfaction the nurs-ing undergraduates who devote themselves to clinical nursing possess, the higher work engagement they possess.There was negative correlation between the motivation on pursuing success and the work engagement of nursing undergraduates(r=-0.310,P<0.05).There was positive cor-relation between the motivation on avoiding failure and work engagement (r=0.506,P<0.01).There was negative correlation between achieve-ment motivation and work engagement(r=-0.487,P<0.01).Conclu-sion:There is international effect on the achievement motivation and the work engagement of the nursing undergraduates at the beginning of clini-cal practice.Educators should carry out internship guidance in combina-tion with nursing undergraduates’characteristics.
